Origin Story

The M4A1-S VariCamo was released on November 27, 2013, as part of The Dust 2 Collection, arriving with the "Out with the old, in with the new" update. This skin features a VariCamo patterned hydrographic application. Its flavor text, "Rebuilding only comes in the wake of destruction," hints at a theme of renewal.

Drop Chance

M4A1-S | VariCamo is Mil-Spec, a Blue-tier skin, less common than base collection drops. It has appeared across 11 tournament packages, most recently the Katowice 2019 Dust II Souvenir Package, London 2018 Dust II Souvenir Package, and MLG Columbus 2016 Dust II Souvenir Package.


Souvenir Packages are awarded to viewers watching live Major matches on the corresponding map, not opened from cases, so Valve doesn't publish per-skin drop odds. Each package contains one item from The Dust 2 Collection, with rarity tiers drawn on a weighted system that heavily favors common grades, meaning Mil-Spec skins like VariCamo are a small fraction of total package contents. There are 2 other Mil-Spec skins in the collection competing for the same drop slot. New copies only enter the market when a recipient chooses to open their package, so supply trickles in over time even after the tournament ends.
