Origin Story

The M249 Contrast Spray joined CS2 with the Operation Breakout update on July 1, 2014, as part of The Overpass Collection. Its in-game description notes it has been "spray-painted freehand with short, thick lines in contrasting colors." This design gives the heavy machine gun a rugged, utilitarian appearance, aligning with its flavor text, "Perfect for the insurgent on the go." Within The Overpass Collection, it functions as a low-tier filler skin, often acquired by collectors completing their sets or from souvenir packages.

Drop Chance

M249 | Contrast Spray is Consumer Grade, the most common drop tier in CS2. It has appeared across 18 tournament packages, most recently the Paris 2023 Overpass Souvenir Package, Rio 2022 Overpass Souvenir Package, and Stockholm 2021 Overpass Souvenir Package.


Souvenir Packages are awarded to viewers watching live Major matches on the corresponding map, not opened from cases, so Valve doesn't publish per-skin drop odds. Each package contains one item from The Overpass Collection, with rarity tiers drawn on a weighted system that heavily favors common grades, meaning Consumer Grade skins like Contrast Spray are a small fraction of total package contents. There are 4 other Consumer Grade skins in the collection competing for the same drop slot. New copies only enter the market when a recipient chooses to open their package, so supply trickles in over time even after the tournament ends.

• Minimal Wear ($1.16): Very light rub appears on high-contact edges like the barrel and receiver, but the overall pattern remains clean and saturated.
• Field-Tested ($0.49): Noticeable edge wear and small patches of exposed metal appear on the front assembly and receiver, softening the contrast of the spray lines.
• Well-Worn ($0.74): More extensive wear covers large surfaces, with some spray lines appearing faded or broken and greater exposure of dull base metal.
• Battle-Scarred ($3.18): Heavy wear is present across most exposed surfaces, with large areas of the spray-paint worn down and significant base metal showing, though the core motif remains visible.
